India Market Research
Indian listed companies, industry trends, and the long-term structural opportunities behind them.
Independent Investor & Advisor · Mumbai, India
From Wall Street to India's capital markets — twenty years built on discipline, patience, and the long view.
From an economics classroom in Delhi to the research desks of Wall Street, and home again to India's fast-compounding markets, Vikram Malhotra has spent his working life studying a single question: what makes an investment endure? Today his work centers on independent research, asset allocation, and private advisory for a select circle of seasoned investors.
The Story
Vikram Malhotra was born in Delhi, India, in November 1975. He completed his undergraduate education in economics at the University of Delhi before moving to the United States to pursue graduate study — an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School, where he trained in modern portfolio theory, securities analysis, corporate finance, and risk management.
He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and completed an executive investment program at Harvard Business School. Today he lives in Mumbai with his wife and daughter, travelling regularly between India's major financial and commercial cities — Delhi, Bengaluru, and beyond — and working fluently in English and his native Hindi.
In 2005 he began his Wall Street career at a large hedge fund — deliberately from the ground up, as a research analyst. He worked through complete market cycles, including the 2008 financial crisis, an experience that permanently shaped his view of risk. By the end of that period he was responsible for research coverage of the technology and consumer sectors.
Since 2019, he has worked independently, back in India. His research now centers on the country's capital markets — economic growth, consumer upgrade, financial services, technology, healthcare, and quality manufacturing — and he advises a small circle of experienced investors who value long-term wealth growth and disciplined risk control.

The Journey
Delhi, India
Born and raised in Delhi. Undergraduate study in economics at the University of Delhi — where the habit of asking "what is this really worth?" first took hold.
United States · Columbia Business School

2005 – 2012

2012 – 2018
Rose to senior portfolio manager, independently managing a long-only portfolio and consolidating an investment framework built squarely on fundamentals.
2019 – Present · India
Returned home and turned his research toward India's capital markets — economic growth, consumer upgrade, financial services, technology, healthcare, and quality manufacturing. Today: independent research, asset allocation, and private advisory for seasoned investors.
The Philosophy
"Not overnight riches — capital preserved, risk contained, wealth compounding steadily across cycles."
— Vikram Malhotra
Great investing is not chasing market hot spots. It is owning, at a reasonable price and on thorough research, businesses that keep creating value.
Across market cycles: preserve capital, contain risk. A portfolio must be built to outlast its mistakes.
Patience over prediction, holding over trading — the quiet discipline that lets wealth compound for decades.
The Craft
Indian listed companies, industry trends, and the long-term structural opportunities behind them.
Financial statements, earnings quality, cash flow, and business-model research — the slow work that compounds.
Fluent across DCF, relative valuation, and scenario analysis — multiple frameworks, one standard of rigor.
Position sizing, sector allocation, diversification, and downside-risk control.
Wall Street research discipline combined with a native's grasp of India's local market realities.
Independent judgment, patient holding, and long-term compounding — in that order.
The Practice
Since returning to India, Malhotra has kept his practice deliberately small — independent research, asset allocation, and private advisory for a select circle of seasoned investors: people with real market experience who care about long-term wealth growth and disciplined risk control.
The goal is never a lucky quarter. It is an investment process — robust, clear, and sustainable — that compounds for decades.
"I am not looking for short-term performance. I am building sustainable compounding."
